What Macy's Announced for the Holidays
In its holiday hiring announcement, Macy's, Inc. said it is filling seasonal part-time jobs at its Macy's, Bloomingdale's and Bluemercury stores, plus full- and part-time roles at select distribution sites. It set three in-person hiring days at all of its stores. The first ran September 24. The other two fall on Thursday, October 22, and Thursday, November 19.
Bakersfield is not on the company's list of top hiring markets, which leans on big metros like Los Angeles, Phoenix and Seattle, and the two distribution sites it named are in West Virginia and Ohio. Macy's has not published a headcount for Bakersfield, or a national total, and we won't guess one. What you can count on: the Valley Plaza store takes part in the hiring day.
The store is staying put, too. Macy's 2026 closure list reached two California stores, in La Mesa and Tracy. Bakersfield was not on it.
💵 What It Pays and What Comes With It
Macy's says every job posting shows its pay range, so you see the number before you apply. Check the listing for the exact role, since ranges differ by job. The company lists colleague discounts, 401(k) savings, early access to earned wages and an employee assistance program among its benefits, with medical, dental and vision coverage subject to eligibility.
Want to stay past New Year's? Say so in the interview. Macy's pitches seasonal work as a way into longer-term jobs.
📋 How to Show Up Ready on Oct. 22
- Call the store first. Macy's says event times vary by location. Valley Plaza is (661) 832-5550.
- Apply online before you go. An application already in the system gives the hiring manager something to pull up.
- Bring photo ID. If you're hired, you'll fill out work-authorization paperwork.
- Know your availability. Holiday retail runs on nights, weekends and the days around Thanksgiving. Have your real schedule ready.
Who Else Is Hiring for the Holidays
Macy's isn't the only employer staffing up. On October 7, UPS said it will add 100,000 seasonal workers nationwide to sort, move and deliver packages. Michaels says it is hiring more than 10,000 seasonal workers across its U.S. and Canadian stores. Neither company has released a Bakersfield number. Apply directly through UPS Jobs and Michaels Careers.
If you'd rather work outside retail, the county's last fall Job Fest stop runs October 28 at Taft College. Different event, different day, different employers. Details are in our fall Kern County job fair guide.
